Transplanting an art practice from a vibrant and active creative community to a new hard and shifty soil was painful, needing desperately a way to process, paint moved in and became a place of respite and healing.

Much of the work over the past several years has included a colour story with Indigo and more sedate themes that held tightly with the grief of loss that was all around.  In this show there are echoes of all. The longing and the growth from places of pain to the brightness of hope that is starting to emerge in the form of more vibrant palettes again. Glass and jewellery is returning as is a joy in the practice.

Shannon Hinkle is a multi-disciplinary artist originally from America, living and making in Fremantle, Australia. Starting with a practice in Lampwork glass over 20 years ago, focusing on jewellery design and sculpture she learned her love of colour.

Shannon had a vibrant studio practice and showed her work numerous times at the Harrison Center for the Arts in Indianapolis, Indiana. In Fremantle Shannon has had her works on display multiple times at the Fremantle Church Arts space. With more exhibitions to come in 23/24.

Currently Shannon is expressing her love for life and colour through paint and glass. Many of her pieces for this exhibition have been born out of a need to find and heal within her stories. In the past, glass blowing and wearable art pieces were a staple of Shannon's practice, however the deep connection to the memory and making of her past was challenging, and new ways of inspiration and seeking comfort moved in.
